I would like to make one correction -- Clang is LLVM, not the other way
around. It's true that there's an LLVM targeting Clang, but that's actually
the LLVM frontend compiler, which is what LLVM is, not the LLVM backend, which
is what Clang is.

Nice post! I am curious if you could also get performance gains from using
LLVM with iPhone apps?

It would most likely be a dead end. A compiler with a scope that includes
mobile platforms _must_ have code that specifically targets the non-mobile
platforms; Clang can only work around this limitation by being LLVM.

Clang already targets iOS so you could build your iOS app targeting Clang for
any of the Apple platforms. However, if you prefer using Clang for iOS to
gain performance improvements, using Clang is way simpler than using LLVM with
mobile projects. You have to do nothing except specify --enable-targets=iphone
in your configure command. No need to build LLVM with
